BEST KNOWN FOR
This huge island literally has something for everyone. Its renowned north shore is edged with dazzling beaches and the famous resort areas that are the stuff of honeymoon dreams—Ocho Rios, Montego Bay, Negril and Port Antonio. The island’s center rises to the lush forested peaks of the famous Blue Mountains, home to coffee plantations as well as several romantic hideaway inns. Dramatically cascading waterfalls create lazy bamboo-boarded rivers along which you can drift on a raft built from this very same bamboo.
DON’T MISS
Zooming on a zip-line far above the jungle canopy at Ocho Rios, an eco-excursion thrill that maximizes this island’s endlessly verdant views.
BEST STAY
This intimate collection of one-of-a-kind cottages, located atop the dramatic cliffs near the secluded end of Negril Beach, is better known as The Caves. You can leap for love, some 15 feet or so, from the rocky ledge into the sea! People do it all the time. Admittedly, though, far more guests are happy limiting their adventure to propping themselves up in bed to better see the baby-blue ocean waves, communing with the sun from a hidden nook just big enough for two lounge chairs, dancing in one of Negril’s famed reggae-infused hot spots, and then returning to the resort to din-by-candlelight in a grotto made for two.
