CAKES QUICK TIPS

If your mind is set on the traditional white, tiered wedding cake with a delicate bride and groom enthroned on top, by all means order it. But if you’d rather have one that looks and tastes different, you’ve got many options. Here, some helpful hints from the experts:

  • You'll probably want to check out—and taste—the work of a few bakers before you find one that’s just right.
  • When you’re placing your order, be sure to know how many guests you’re expecting and what the color scheme will be.
  • Most cakemasters will have a book of sample designs that you can look through to choose the cake you want. They’ll also be able to work with you to create your own vision and incorporate any special elements you have in mind.
  • Eating wedding cake used to be more of a duty than a pleasure with all the dry, crumbly white cakes of the past. But now that the gourmets of the world have taken over, wedding cakes are really tempting the taste buds. In addition to Vanilla and Chocolate, there’s Lemon Coconut, Orange Poppy Seed, and Red Velvet. Flavorful fillings include: Kahlua, Strawberry, Irish Cream, Grand Marnier, Raspberry, Orange, Hazelnut and Mango.
